San Francisco Beaches
Posted by: flatlife.net In: Uncategorized
The San Francisco beaches are mostly windy, chilly and foggy, but that doesn’t deter people from visiting the San Francisco beaches. Many beaches in San Francisco have the great beautiful view of the Point Bonita Lighthouse, Marin Highlands and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The water is very cold at the beaches because of San Francisco’s latitude. Hence in addition to the swim suits and shorts, people should get their jacket or sweatshirt. A good book, a sand bucket, bench towels, a Frisbee and a kite is all that is needed to make your afternoon enjoyable at the beach.
The most popular beaches in San Francisco are the Baker Beach and the Ocean Beach. Even the East beach in Presidio has become very popular after the Crissy Field got restored. Ocean Beach is the longest and largest beach in San Francisco and runs for 5 miles in the entire San Francisco’s western side. Ocean Beach’s northern side is particularly popular among surfers, locals and visitors. The Ocean beach is a perfect place to try your skills in sand sculptures and every year sand sculpture competition takes place here. Ocean Beach is ideal for surf wading due to the slight slope in the area.
South of Golden Gate Bridge in the Presidio is located the Baker Beach. The beautiful view of the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge makes it a popular picnic destination for the locals in San Francisco. Swimming is not recommended in the water because of its strong rip tides. To the eastern part of the north parking, several picnic tables and barbecue pits are situated. Some fisherman can be seen along the shoreline.
Other popular beaches in San Francisco include the China Beach and the Lands End Beach. The China Beach was named after the Chinese fisherman who camped nearby. People often mistake Castro Beach as a Beach. But the fact is that it is only a park which has been nicknamed beach because of the many Castro sun bathers that are regular in the park.
Beaches in San Francisco provide a great way for the people to enjoy and relax.
